As someone kindly pointed out here, May 31st is the 5th anniversary of River’s first appearance on ‘Doctor Who’. Why shouldn’t we celebrate it? Let’s have another River Song Appreciation Day! ~~(because who knows, we may need it after the finale, what, this is a possibility. and who cares that it’s not even a year since the last River Song Appreciation Day? I don’t.)~~

It isn’t possible to get inside the old slaughterhouse-five without a tour guide to get you inside the slaughterhouse compound.

There is a wonderful tour guide named Danilo who does a tour called “On the trail of Kurt Vonnegut” who gives an incredible two hour Kurt Vonnegut tour that ends with getting inside the slaughterhouse where he was kept during the firebombings of WWII. So you see the ORT 63 marker, the old slaughterhouse, the memorial they have for Kurt Vonnegut inside of it, everything.

It was the most incredible experience. I fully recommend it to anyone passing through Dresden who likes Kurt Vonnegut, even if its just a little bit.

AHHH it’s goin on the bucket list!

Elementary is NOT taking the Sherlock Holmes stories and transposing them into the modern world (like BBC Sherlock).

Elementary is writing AU modern fanfic. Elementary went,”Hey, there are a lot of white cis dudes in the source material, so let’s do some gender- and race-bending (Watson) and more representation, like an awesome trans Mrs. Hudson.” They said, “You know, addiction is a serious issue now, so let’s explore that and give it real, serious weight, instead of treating it in a cavalier manner.” And when they were planning out the arc for the season, they said, “Instead of Watson being the biographer who’s always amazed by Sherlock’s deductions, let’s have her be his partner instead, and have it be Watson’s journey as much as Holmes’.”

They said, “Hey, everybody knows Irene Adler is the only woman on Sherlock’s radar because of the RDJ movies, so let’s use that as a red herring. Let’s make this huge plot line throughout the season about Sherlock’s lost love, but it’s really about how Moriarty has already planted the seeds for defeating Holmes—the audience just won’t know it yet.”

It’s awesome. It uses the audience’s preconceptions of Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes AND modern Sherlock Holmes adaptations against them. And yet, it still stays true to the heart of the conflict. Sherlock didn’t figure out Irene Adler’s plan until after it was successful (just like the original story—though this story was a good deal more bloody). Sherlock still couldn’t beat Moriarty. It’s just, the original stories didn’t have Joan Watson, and Joan Watson is freaking awesome. I LOVE how that decision to make Watson a detective in her own right has changed the characters’ stories/dynamics and caused a ripple in the Sherlock universe. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

And Moriarty is obviously not done. She’ll escape from jail through her contacts, or worse, be acquitted in open court by jury tampering, and walk out with a smile on her face and a new vendetta for Joan Watson.
